The security dongle is electrically the same than normal memory cards, the only difference is they use arcade2 magicgate keys, so only COH-H consoles can auth them in their left port. (Right port uses arcade1 keys, so it accepts licensed or official retail SCPH-10020 cards)

それは違いますね。仮にMP3であったとしても、OpeMGでDRM化する時間や、MAGICGATEメモステと握手する時間は同等に掛かったはずです。atracのせいではありません。

当時の技術的限界とか、いやSONYのMagicGateの実装が良く無かったとかMGMSの規格が、とかあったのだろうけれども、MGMSはアルバム1枚入るのがやっと、しかもそんなにお値段も安くなかった、他デバイスへの横展開へもイマイチ、な中、毎日アルバムとっかえひっかえして音楽を外へ持ち出そう、といっても暗号化するのにアルバム1枚30分～1時間、当時の標準的なVAIO Noteでさえ時間かかりましたからね……

諸悪の根源はMAGICGATE。こいつ、自分で録音した生音源ですらコピー判定しやがった。ゴミ。

巷では「atracがソニー敗北の元凶だ」と言われていますが、それは正確ではありません。 NW-MS7に付属されたPCソフト『OpenMG Jukebox』の仕様が、OpenMGというDRMを採用したことと、チェックアウト回数3回の制限を設定したこと、そしてMAGICGATE対応メモステにしか読み書き権限を与えなかったことです。atracはただMDで実績があったから横展開しただけで、たとえコーデックがMP3であったとしても、当時のソニーは上記3つの縛りを設けたでしょう。 #ウォークマン #walkman
