If Democrats truly support secure, accessible voting, why the resistance to transparency on rolls?
Look at the track record in California and other blue states, where one-party Democratic control has produced some of the most expansive (and criticized) voting systems:
• Universal mail-in ballots: California automatically mails ballots to every registered voter (made permanent post-2020). Ballots postmarked by Election Day can arrive up to 7 days later and still count. This leads to prolonged counting, late “ballot dumps,” and shifts in results.
• Ballot harvesting: Legalized in 2016, allowing third parties to collect and deliver unlimited ballots. Critics argue it enables organized collection favoring Democrats, with documented late surges.
• No voter ID requirement: CA law prohibits local jurisdictions from requiring ID. Signature matching is the main check, but it’s subjective. Most Americans (including many Democrats) support photo ID.
• Automatic voter registration (via DMV etc.): Boosts rolls significantly, but raises concerns about accuracy, non-citizen inclusions, and outdated entries. Blue states often resist aggressive cleaning.
• Same-day registration, extended deadlines, and curing: Maximizes access but complicates verification and chain-of-custody. Similar patterns in NY, NJ, and other long-term Democratic strongholds.
These policies are sold as “protecting democracy,” yet they’ve coincided with one-party dominance in CA (no statewide GOP win since 2006), resistance to audits, and accusations of engineering rules to maintain power.
Voter rolls should be accurate and public. Mail ballots expand access but need verifiable recipients. Secure elections require both access and integrity - not framing basic checks as tyranny while building systems that favor one side.
