Have you heard of the Marine Mail Guards before? In October 1926, President Coolidge ordered 2,500 Marines to guard US Mail after the brutal robbery and murder of a US Mail truck driver. The 4th Marines were spread throughout 12 states. These armed Marines became a sobering sight throughout Post Offices, mail trains, and mail trucks. Only one robbery was attempted while Marines guarded US mail.
