A massive fire that broke out in a five storey building in TKD Extension, Tughlakabad, on June 12, 2026, has claimed three lives and left eight people injured. What was initially treated as an accidental fire due to negligence has now been confirmed as a deliberate act of arson. During investigation, a 17-year-old girl from Navjeevan Camp, Govind Puri, was arrested. She confessed that Sarita (27), a resident of Girinagar, Govind Puri, had instigated her. Sarita allegedly gave her petrol and a matchbox to set fire to a scooty belonging to Deepak, a fifth-floor resident, over a monetary dispute. Further probe revealed that Sarita was acting on the directions of Niranjan (33) and his brother Rajkumar (27), both from Navjeevan Camp. The trio allegedly planned the arson to settle a personal grudge. Police have added serious charges including criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, mischief by fire, and lurking house trespass.
