Some of our BIG ideas from week 1 of /- strategies:
1. You must show your thinking 💭
2. You can CHOOSE a strategy!
3. An EFFICIENT strategy!!
4. Is your answer reasonable? 🤔

Data, data everywhere! 2nd grade students are to collect, analyze, and display data. Ms. Martin keeps it engaging for her students by using skittles! This is Ms. Martin. This is MBES! #MBESbuildingourfurturetogether
So much thinking going on here! Students using Math by the Book tasks to discover insights about the concept of perimeter. #MathinContext#MathbytheBook
Ss making real life connections to measurement! 📏After listening to “Can I be Your Dog!” Ss engage in a creative project & use perimeter to construct a fence for their pet!🐶 Real word situations, creation of models, & LOTS of math talk! @AmstiUAH@LizJrealtor@SueOConnellMath
As adults, when we do math it’s with a purpose and in context. To only focus on answer getting in K-5 math, S’s aren’t thinking critically. Building critical thinkers in K-5 creates S’s more capable and willing to take on challenging tasks later. #FoodForThought#MathInContext
Our focus was on the progression of place value concepts in grades 2 & 3. Setting the context: Max's Words by Kate Banks and George Crum & the Saratoga Chips by Gaylia Taylor. Fun & meaningful literature connections! #MathinContext@AACPSOdentonES@HeinemannPub#MathbytheBook
This display is wonderful! It invites students into the stories! And once students are engaged with the stories, the math explorations begin! #MathbytheBook#MathinContext@HeinemannPub
To learn the differences between weather and climate, we used a “climate decoder” to help us figure out the climates of various areas around the world. Ss discovered how climate can be determined by location on a number line. #mathincontext#bced#scichat
I’m a huge fan of documenting student learning. They pour their hearts out on their work and we don’t do it justice if we just put it into binders! 1) field trip planning with public transit, 2) migration and hibernation patterns for different animals in Canada! #mathincontext
Our last Ftl PC session with Sue O’Connell. She helped us with our continued journey to math discovery - enriching our teaching to create mathematically proficient students.

Have been seeing signs about 3 sec rule when driving. What learning could occur with this stimulus? #mathincontext
Why a three second rule? Why not more? How accurate is the 'one thousand and one' way of counting seconds? What mathematics supports this?
