For those unaware, PS2s models SCPH-3900x to SCPH-7000x will destroy your laser if the DSP recieves bad ECC data either from a burnt DVD or heavily scratched discs resulting in the MechaCon crashing and burning the laser out. Sony got sued for it iirc

Someone is trying to sell a FMCB PS2 for 90 AUD, but it experienced a MechaCon crash so its laser is totally annihilated. You don't hate 'retro' console sellers enough

Debugging the SFC to CD mechacon interface. Timing to work out on the PLD side to get reliable reads/writes each way. The scope shows the individual nibbles of an ACCESS command being transferred to an ATMega microcontroller that's standing in for the real mechacon chip.

Some progress on the Nintendo PlayStation: some programmable logic acts as a bridge between SFC and CD hardware. Set up in a loopback configuration, the BIOS now thinks it's talking to the mechacon MCU. Mock firmware is ready to go once this part is debugged.

Not 100% on the layout, still a few gaps. Not found either of the CXD chips but either can be made to fit with an adapter flex. Mechacon is known but not the glue logic, also no firmware so would at least need to write that and/or replace with a modern MCU.

Not sure what MA-115 signifies but yes, glue logic that would need to be replaced with a CPLD or similar. It appears to do address decoding and relay commands and responses to and from the mechacon (MCU for the drive, would also need replacing or at least firmware writing!)

Some example remaining jobs, I can post details if interested:
1. Reverse engineering to finish off the schematic (mostly analogue and passives).
2. Implementing a replacement for some glue logic (CPLD or similar).
3. Same for the mechacon, or at least writing firmware for it.
