#MediaComp meets #AI: I’m training a self-built deep neural network in @SnapCloud on a bunch of 100-sample chunks from 2 recordings so it learns to distinguish between my flute and my harmonica when I play them into my laptop’s microphone. Gonna teach this to kids this fall 🤩

#MediaComp friends, #didYouKnow that the same box blur and sharpen filters can be applied to both digital images and sounds eliciting similar impressions? The same technique that renders an image sharper makes a sound more crisp.

In early days of #MediaComp, we added blue boxes to help avoid indentation errors. We told students all about it. When Ss got that error, we’d ask “What about the blue boxes?” Response: what blue boxes?

The context was one professor arguing that what I was doing in #MediaComp was unethical. He argued that society needs excellent programmers far more than it needs liberal arts and sciences students who know programming. So I was wasting precious CS teaching resources.
