The Reds didn't fare too badly on the George Foster and Tom Seaver trades, either.

No insults to Lee May who continued to be a good player after leaving the Reds, but that trade has to be the greatest in Reds history. Perhaps the greatest 2nd baseman ever in Joe Morgan and two solid contributors in Billingham and Geronimo was a steal for the Big Red Machine.

Perez moved from third to first in 1972. Previous off-season the Reds traded Lee May, Tommy Helms, and Jimmy Stewart to the Astros for Ed Armbrister, Jack Billingham, Cesar Geronimo, Denis Menke, and Joe Morgan. Lee May had been the Reds' 1B prior to the trade.

He moved to 1B circa 1975 to get George Foster in the lineup in LF. Pete Rose went from LF to 3B.
