.@MiamiHackWeek raised $2M because we could focus on building while @HackClubHCB handled the infrastructure. Their tech-enabled fiscal sponsorship tools remove the nonprofit admin headache and unlock ambitious projects. Best in class. their work with high school software engineers has always inspired me. So excited for what @zachlatta and the team are building.
Hack Club is the first large donation most of our donors have made. We operate at a lower cost than public schools and help teens build awesome projects like the ones on magazine.hackclub.com with 100% transparent finances. We can do a lot more with more support. Get in touch

Honestly, I appreciate @raechellambert saying publicly what I wasn’t willing to —parts of the Miami tech scene have been messy for a long time, and the fallout usually lands on the organizers and builders who are actually trying to do things right. When our partners didn’t pay up for @MiamiHackWeek, I called and texted everyone I could trying to cover the gap, and no one stepped in to help the nonprofit. That doesn’t change the fact that the delay happened, and I take responsibility for my part in it.
Husband and I tried Miami for 1 year after living in SF and NYC tech scenes. Very top heavy - mostly successful founders and VCs who go to live in their nice houses and aren’t out there being part of the community Tons of larping founders - I got invited to some “female founder dinners” and every single woman showed up dressed for a kardashian wedding and had obviously spent all their time in the salon, not building a startup The grifting is real - we won Miami Hack Week in 2023. The $10k prize money did not exist and it took 6 months to even get a hold of the organizer. He never paid. When the next Miami hack week came around, I tried telling 3 people in the community. Organizer told them I was a liar and that I had been paid. This bullshit would never happen in SF or NYC. Miami hack week seems to have a new organizer now so I’m hopeful it’s being better managed.

I 10/10 recommend finding dope ways to amplify these existing organizers. They care about the community and have been working behind the scenes for years and have been consistent. Also they’re fun! And get engineers.

We just wrapped up an incredible 18 weeks in the @VentureMiami Built in Miami Startup Program and I'm so excited to say we launched 100 new tech startups in Miami! 🚀 This cohort showed so much growth, grit, and ambition to tackle big problems with their companies. I'm so proud of this crew and have no doubt that they will go on to build big, valuable, technology companies here in Miami. On Tuesday we held a graduation ceremony with @FrancisSuarez at City Hall. Seeing these founders celebrate the startup milestone with their family, kids, and friends was super special. Then we had Demo Day in the evening with 8 live pitches and 70 startups showcasing their products to the community. The energy and enthusiasm in the room was palpable. This was an intensive program that pushed founders to ideate, validate, and launch a product in just a few months. Each workshop was focused on taking action and moving the ball forward each week. There was no "playing startup" going on here. These founders took action and continuously iterated on their concepts and products leading to successful launches, traction, and fundraising. - 18 weeks - 40 in-person 3 hour workshops - hundreds of hours of office hours - hundreds of thousands of $ raised during the program - dozens of pivots, rejections, and roadblocks that were overcome Thank you to @ErickGavin7 @burhansebin and the @VentureMiami team for making this happen and trusting me to serve as the program instructor. Its been an honor and frankly just so much fun to help build this program and help these founders win. Thank you to our incredible mentors who volunteered countless hours of their time to the startups. Thank you to the guest speakers, sponsors, and partners. And thank you to @officelogicmia & @MiamiHackWeek for hosting this lively cohort each week. The Built in Miami Program is something special. If you're interested in joining the next cohort, you can get on the waitlist at builtmiami.com. Demo Day recap by @refreshmiami 👇 refreshmiami.com/built-in-mi…
