I am on a fb group for parents whose kids are going off to college. Holy cow. These parents are acting like they’re the ones going away next month. They are worried about which bedside has the microfridge, how often the bathrooms will be cleaned, what brand of tp will be provided, the best tension rod for shower curtain, what size ottoman to buy for slightly lofted bed… One parent complained a couch could not fit into the dorm room. Reading these comments made me equal parts depressed and amused. But then my daughter told me she is on the fb group for the kids and they are NOT talking abt any of this silly stuff. It is totally normal recommendations and ideas. There is hope guys. The future is bright!

Well…not the most graceful carrying it up from the basement and half a bottle of cleaner later to get it…mosty white but my old microfridge (the microwave is the one I use in my kitchen) is ready to go back to work as a dog fridge in the new kennel room XD

The past 40 years have ruined Canada’s economy. Perhaps the most impactful to individual people are the housing policies. The government has made it incredibly difficult to build and burdensome to buy. But the population keeps growing. So homes are in the millions and rents are well past 30% of incomes. We see similar policies here in the U.S., specifically in California. The local and state governments have created ridiculous barriers to develop. Supply of homes and apartments stay low, while rent perpetually runs with little incentive to upkeep quality. This is why 1bd apartments in NYC are in 90s condition with no washer/dryer and microfridge but can fetch $5k/mo. In order to solve this problem we need to lower the barriers to build and staff our local governments properly. Reduce costs and increase speed. Builders will build to the bottleneck. Let’s make that a demand issue - which will regulate rent prices and incentive the best owners and developers - instead of a permitting issue. Literally just takes a community getting together to enact change.
