Standing in front of this room at @thejsnation, I was about to reveal something I had been testing quietly for months before feeling confident enough to put it on a stage. The reaction told me it was worth the wait. After the talk I spent 3 hours in conversations with at least 15 people from different companies, all either starting a modernization to micro-frontends or stuck in one. I skipped lunch entirely, then a second wave found me for another hour. Some lit up about the Canvas because it structured decisions their teams had been improvising. If your team is modernizing to #microfrontends and the boundaries are creating more friction than independence, I would love to hear what you are seeing. I have been working through these situations for years and sometimes one focused conversation is enough to find where the real misalignment lives. Microfrontends aren't free: they increase build times and complicate developer onboarding. If your infrastructure isn't automated, it will eat your ROI. Focus on efficient #CI_CD to keep your deployments fluid. 📈 #DevOps

Whether you want to or not, a web app at scale that is hosted on a public cloud will eventually start resembling a microfrontend. The moment you want an integration with a third party service or to process payments, you see this manifest as JavaScript that you have to load modularly into your app. The promise seems to be that microfrontends backed by a good granular permissions system of a dev team, and good organizational governance, will remain secure, even as talent rotates in and out of your org. The potential risks are that federated modules and import maps might need careful analysis of how trust and certificates propagate in your runtime. This is in an age when hardware keys are more important, with standards like Microsoft #Pluton, TPM 2.0, etc. Your opinions?

This room. 1,500 developers in a former ship engine factory in Amsterdam, and I am about to say them the problem with #microfrontends was never the code. 350 talks in my career and I still get that moment backstage where my brain suggests becoming a baker instead 🤣 At @thejsnation today I announce two projects I have been cooking for a while: The Micro-Frontend Canvas, a one-page tool for the design decisions teams always skip. Works for planning new boundaries and for diagnosing why your existing ones hurt. MFE Skills, a set of SKILL.md files that teach your AI coding assistant the boundary rules I spent 10 years figuring out. Works with Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex, Antigravity. They are two halves of the same idea: the canvas helps you decide where a boundary goes, the skills stop your agent from quietly dissolving it three sprints later. Both follow a harness engineering approach, and they are just the beginning of what I have planned. If you missed yesterday's Canvas announcement, full article here: lucamezzalira.medium.com/the… Skills repo: github.com/lucamezzalira/mfe… Now someone point me to the nearest stroopwafel! #JSNation #microfrontends #harnessengineering

What started as "let's break the frontend monolith" turned into weeks of learning: The biggest lesson? Microfrontends solve team-scaling problems more than frontend-scaling problems. Wrote a blog on everything I learned ayaanshilledar.space/blog/ho… Also share your Thoughts!

I have been quiet about #microfrontends for the past few months. Not because I stopped working on them but because I was cooking 😎 Here the pattern I kept seeing over the last decade: teams skip the design phase. They hear "micro-frontends" and jump straight to code. A few months later, friction and then, someone blames the architecture. Remember the architecture did not fail, the problem was that the boundaries were never designed. I kept asking: how do I make that way of thinking travel? Then harness engineering clicked it into place. If you have not read Birgitta Boeckeler's piece on Martin Fowler's site, start there: martinfowler.com/articles/ha… The boundary rules are known and the violation signals are known. What was missing was a way to encode them into the tools teams actually use. So I built a series of tools following a harness engineering approach. The first one ships today! The Micro-Frontend Canvas: a structured one-page tool that captures the key decisions for a single micro-frontend before code is written. It follows a simple rule: 1 MFE, 1 canvas 👇 lucamezzalira.medium.com/the… Use it to plan new boundaries (it forces the questions teams skip). Use it to diagnose existing ones (the sections you cannot fill in cleanly are where your friction lives). Free, open source and under Creative Commons. But it is just the first piece because the canvas decides where boundaries go. What comes next is how you keep them from leaking once an AI agent writes the code. I'll talk more about that soon! I tested with a dozen of companies in the past 6 months so the v1 has taken into account all the feedback received so far but more will be absolutely appreciated! If you try and you want to share your experience with it please ping me anytime, my door is always open 😉 #microfrontends #softwarearchitecture #harnessengineering

Vercel's Microfrontends solution is the deepest integration in this list. We use these to develop 𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚌𝚎𝚕.𝚌𝚘𝚖 and it turned me from "Microfrontends don't work" to "okay, Microfrontends work when done well". This is the "easiest-to-ship on Day 1 and Day 1,000" solution I've seen in the microfrontends space. vercel.com/docs/microfronten…

LESSGOOOOOO, IT'S FINALLY OUT IN ALPHA!!! Turboflare is live! (turboflare.vaishnav.one) A selfhosted @turborepo remote cache on @Cloudflare Workers R2 (optional) kv and so much more: - clone free setup with one simple command: pnpm dlx create-turboflare - R2 backed artifacts (and KV for you weirdos out there, jk!) - stock turbo client support - scoped tokens team isolation - branch aware cache policies (we aint dealing with cache poisoning again!) - optional signatures, metrics, cleanup and boring admin APIs In my CI, a rebuild from remote cache dropped from ~95s to ~2s (im bringing hard numbers this time, lmao) ALPHA, but usable. feedback/bugs/features welcome!!!!!! github.com/vaishnav-mk/turbo… (surprisingly easy to self host and absolutely no vendor lock-in from @vercel's end, y'all cooked with this!!)
