So the GPU cluster I'm using has, aside from a very generous 25 TB storage quota, a file count quota of 1M. If I have ~10 venvs installed, my "mini"conda envs/ and pkgs/ directories will have a total of 750k files, so I have to remove one venv for each new one I install. Bottom line being, if you develop a new DL package and expect me to do a "quick install" with a new venv a few cryptic minitools, you need to convince me to uninstall one of my local AlphaFold, RoseTTAFold, pLLM, AlphaFlow, generic PyTorch/TensorFlow envs first. Most likely the extra tools are for logging, batch submissions, integration etc., so 90% of users who want to test the tool will not use them anyway. I know mixing dependencies results in mile-long discussions of deprecation errors on github, but are there even any developer guidelines to start fixing this mess? 🙄
