Timothy’s Walk: From Pages to Poses This morning I walked with @_kirenda, a young man whose mind is alive with stories, questions, and dreams. He reads deeply, he writes faithfully, and he carries within him the fire of an entrepreneur—always searching for what might be possible, always testing what could work. And then, almost as a whisper, he revealed: “I also model.” I paused. A male model—in Uganda! My delight was instant, my curiosity aflame. But Timothy did not speak of modeling as a fleeting passion. He spoke of it as a craft, a calling, an industry worth fighting for. He dreams of an ecosystem where modeling is respected, professionalized, and globally connected. He knows South Sudan and South Africa are storming the world’s runways because they dared to take the work seriously. And he longs for Uganda to step into that same light. Yet Timothy also knows this journey is not his alone. He walks on a road softened by the steps of pioneers before him, those who first dared to stand tall under runway lights, who cracked open doors that once seemed sealed. Their footprints steady him, even as he recognizes the loneliness of the path. He now carries their baton, determined to hand it on stronger, surer, more secure. A Larger Story 🌍 Uganda’s modeling scene may be young, but it has already surprised the world. Aamito Lagum, winner of Africa’s Next Top Model, went on to walk for Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs, and Fendi. Her journey is proof: Ugandans belong on the global stage. Timothy is part of that unfolding story, watering the roots of an industry so it might bear fruit for others. Why It Matters ✨ Timothy reminds me that change is not glamorous. It is slow, stubborn, sacred work. It is the courage to insist on value where others see none. It is the patient labor of turning dreams into systems, hustle into infrastructure, talent into opportunity. And it is legacy, because twenty years from now, when Uganda’s modeling industry blossoms, it will be because people like Timothy planted seeds and refused to give up on them.
