Today marked an important milestone for climate justice and defender protection in Uganda.
The Post-COP30 National Reflection and Accountability Dialogue created a much-needed space for collective reflection, strategic engagement, and action-oriented planning. By convening negotiators, government actors, civil society, women- and youth-led organizations, defenders, and partners, the event strengthened a shared commitment to ensure that
#COP30 outcomes do not remain in policy spaces alone.
One of the most important highlights was the launch of the Environmental Human Rights Defenders Network, which offers a stronger foundation for collaboration, solidarity, peer learning, and collective accountability. In a context where environmental defenders, particularly women and youth, continue to face disproportionate risks, this matters deeply.
Today’s conversations affirmed that advancing
#climatejustice requires more than participation. It requires protection, gender-responsive policy implementation, and stronger national accountability pathways.
We leave encouraged by the growing momentum and by the collective resolve to build a climate justice movement that is bold, connected, and grounded in the realities of frontline communities.
