Incredibly random but for any other Europeans/multilinguals that know related languages: Do y'all also feel like you got a cheat code? Cause like everyone's impressed that I know "so many" languages but half of them might as well be the same language to me.

ofc n&m are language level 4838249. they’re like true multilinguals just saying whatever. i remember seeing clips from their lives and thinking thank god for subtitles because you would need to know four languages to keep up

the use of foreign language becomes nuanced especially for bi/multilinguals since those borrowed words operate on the cultural and social context of where it is being used. for example, whereas the west would usually use the word "bold" to mean "brave" or "daring", (1/n)

hello, we have seen a clip of YJ going around and we wanted to explain the nuance of the word “sexy”. it’s understandable as to why people feel uncomfortable by it because to many of us, the word “sexy” carries a sexual undertone. however, the word “sexy” in korea carries a significantly less sexual undertone and is rather used as calling someone attractive, handsome and/or cool. we would never defend something that is wholeheartedly weird. we won’t bash those who feel uncomfortable because again, most people aren’t aware that the term carries different undertones.

India’s linguistic tapestry is extraordinarily multifarious. English is often taught in formal education and later used as an interregional lingua franca. Consequently, many Indians become adept multilinguals, seamlessly navigating disparate linguistic spheres in daily life.

Then why don't you join Black groups based in those specific areas rather than joining broad groups? They exist. The multilinguals & cultural translators are usually there. If I've been able to find these groups since I was 16, surely you've had access to the same resources.

i feel like someone correcting you in their language’s nuance shouldn’t be demonised at all. it’s not calling someone stupid either. lots of english speakers are in awe of multilinguals

kalau di psycholinguistics, ini salah satu multilinguals' behaviour yang bisa dipahami lewat neuro-cognitive process—salah satunya interfensi dari mother language. and that's okay, that's normal. semua manusia yang dwibahasa pasti mengalami hal yang kayak gini kok :D

Just loud and dumb actually bcuz bashing multilinguals who try their best to learn and say words that they dont understand/speak is crazy😭 like who are you try to speak over their skills of languages😭 being multilingual is hard anyway and its completely normal for them to mix up the words that they’re guessing, at least they have an effort to learn language

It's surprisingly common among multilinguals. Just like swapping langs/dialects is Code Switching, I call it Code Glitching, especially if the word was *right THERE* a bit ago. Like that one post where its OP's FR friend forgot nostalgia, panicked, & called it "childhood umami."
