Personally speaking I encourage multilingulism but by choice
This Govt is forcing a lots of policies on folk via ambush which is really uncool.
If the Govt was honest it would do right thing & have a referendum

So while we wait (25 years) for government to develop other languages we must sit quietly while Afrikaans is used to exclude? No. If government and institutions don't do the work of inclusive multilingulism students are at least asking for no tolerance of exclusionary practices

I'll also add that this is a country of bi-/multilingulism, like most of the world. Everyone we've interacted with has spoken at least a tiny bit of English, and some are completely proficient. Quite possibly they speak several other languages too
