Most chains are still trying to scale by adding lanes to the same road.
Somnia said: what if every driver had their own road… and a master map kept everyone in sync?
Multistream consensus is wild because:
– It boosts speed without sacrificing decentralization
– It’s naturally fault-tolerant
– It scales with users, not against them
Real metaverse infrastructure needs this. Social apps, gaming, AI all need parallel execution AND shared finality.

Somnia's multistream consesus explained to a normie!
Blockchains are made up of validators that needs to agree on which data is valid, this process of agreeing is called CONSENSUS.
Somnia's multistream consesus uses two things to improve efficiency and speed:
• Data processing: each validators processes transactions into blocks independently.
one validator 🤝 one data chain!
• Decision making: the final state of each validator is agreed to using a consensus chain.
the image above shows four different validators, each validator adds blocks to their datachain. these data chains has no consensus mechanism at all.
somnia then included a consensus chain that includes the current head of each data chain to form a consensus block.
the consensus block is the combination of all the transactions in each data chain's head.
to make you understand better:
see it like when you go to a big mall with lots of people, will you rather want a single counter that attends to people or a multiple counter?
The person in each counter acts as the validator to check your order and process it while the security at the door acts as the consensus chain to agree on receipts from different counters (validators).
This means:
• transactions are processes simultaneously and quickly.
• real time apps like games, social platforms and metaverse can run seamlessly.
• no bottlenecks and every single block is recorded.
• if one validator stops functioning, it doesn't affect the others.
The multistream consensus also plays an important role in somnia's accelerated sequential execution.
