the Netduino which ran on the .net micro framework. it worked very much like Arduino but you have access to hardware timers with a lot more percision (at the time) and there were interrupts on every io port. It had a great use case for times where you needed a Realtime OS but wanted something cheap and easy to use. on the plus side Arduino today has caught up on most use cases

Thinking back to over 10 years ago, when I designed some MIDI and audio interface modules for .NET Gadgeteer and Netduino Go. Never really finished the code -- all on CodePlex at the time, IIRC.

I actually wrote a Netduino book. It was meant to be a super cheap handbook, then when it went live on Amazon @PacktAuthors had edited the code (badly) and priced it like a full book. Still salty about that.

Memories! So this was the AGENT Smart Watch by Secret Labs (the Netduino people). I backed the kickstarter, and built software for this (youtube.com/watch?v=_Ik7wJtX…). Here is a photo from 2014 at the MVP summit where @chrisdwalker let me play with one of the few prototypes.
There was a time that I put 180 USD in this Kickstarter project (that never saw the day). I wonder what was my thinking at the time. The watch itself is ugly 🫣. I was probably attracted with the fun to do C# code for the watch.

Happy 7th Birthday @wildernesslabs Loved the Netduino spent loads of time having fun with it. .NETMF MonkeyRobotics FTW!  It was then a no brainer to get the first Kickstarter of the Meadow board. I just checked, my very first board arrived in October 2019. #meadowIoT ..

asahi-net.or.jp/~qx5k-iskw/d…
これは.NetMFにめちゃくちゃコミットしてたのでもらったやつ。懐かしい。HALのコミッタが思ったより少なかったのはすげぇ苦しかったですね。 今となっては思い出以上の価値はない。

Going through some old gear and ran across this fellow. Those were good times. I also have a netduino micro tucked away somewhere.

.NET is so versatile and scalable. That's a good job and effort from Microsoft! Learning C# offers so many possibilities to both professional developers and hobbiests alike. P.S. I once run C# on a small ARM microcontroller using a netduino board (from image).

Paul KB5MU reports: "Unfortunately, the status monitor is based on Netduino, and crucial parts of that toolchain are no longer readily available. Worst case of bit rot I’ve seen in a while. On the bright side, this doesn’t matter at all when the GPSDO is just used as freq. ref."

Granted, for me, it was the LED on a Netduino, but I still remember the magic of the first time I got everything set up right and it worked. It really is an awesome feeling, and I'm so happy you got to experience it, too.

While migrating some old projects (ghipp.me/posts/migrated/anti…), discovered Netduino is discontinued! If you are looking for something for .net #IoT, @wildernesslabs picked it up and created the Meadow.

My sons had a bit of a play with Arduino, Netduino and MicroBit... I may hand on a Pi 3 to him once I upgrade our Home Assistant... but he likes to know how things work from scratch. So he's currently on the floor debugging his full adder made with transistors. I'm not much help!
