๐The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, through its contractor, is continuing specialized engineering works on the rainwater drainage channel in Dbayeh, as part of its proactive plan to rehabilitate and expand the capacity of winter drainage networks ahead of the rainy season.
๐น The works include deep excavation and the installation of concrete piles using advanced drilling equipment, in preparation for the expansion of the channel basin at the coastal entrance of the area. This will allow for a wider flow path and improve water circulation.
These piles are being implemented to reinforce the surrounding structural base of the channel and ensure its stability during the upcoming excavation and widening phases.
๐น This site presents particular engineering challenges due to the overlap of several vital service lines within the work zone, including electricity cables, water pipes, telephone lines, and other public utility networks.
For this reason, field teams are simultaneously cleaning and widening the old channel, while raising the upper vault so that these utility lines will eventually pass through the roof rather than within the channel itself. This will ensure better water flow, prevent recurrent blockages, and reduce flooding risks during the winter season.
๐น Upon completion of this phase, works will advance to the next stage, involving the maintenance and rehabilitation of similar channels on the mountain side, forming part of an integrated and sustainable solution that ensures efficient water flow along both sides of the coastal highway and mitigates the recurring floods that used to affect the area each year.
๐น These works fall under the national plan launched by the Ministry to rehabilitate rainwater and wastewater networks along classified roads, aiming to enhance preparedness, strengthen infrastructure resilience against winter torrents, and safeguard public safety, properties, and vital facilities.
