I’m just having my fifth trip Silicon Valley within the past two years. One observation: people pivot way too fast here.
Most of my friends pivoted at least once within that time. Some of them pivoted five times or more.
Especially communities have been rotating way too fast. I know of many community leaders who dropped out after a year or two despite having GREAT networking results — only because they didn’t find a way to monetize their network within that short time.
Networking is a long-term game, don’t you know?
There are virtually no communities that started before the pandemic. A few months of a lockdown and all these “leaders” just vanished.
Stamina and consequence are everything in building a personal brand.
Ever since I came to the city in the beginnings of October, I was bumping into people in meetups and club who recognized me as “the career girl.” Some of them didn’t even remember my name, and yet, they remembered what I was working on.
That made me feel even more confident about the fact that being consequent is the ultimate superpower.
You might be slow at work, time your time, do you wellness days, and yet, still get to your goals with iron consequence. Amongst the crowd of fast, smart… dropouts.
This time, I gave a lecture about — guess what — career development and the future of work — at the loveliest Hackerspace in the Bay,
@hackerdojo.
And that’s exactly where you will find me in 5 years. In 10 years. In 15 years. On stage talking about career development and the future of work.
Cordial thanks to the organizers of the NASA International Space Apps Challenge, Martina Dimoska and Nicole Borgaard, for the invitation.
Also, cordial thanks to all the people who work hard on the Dojo’s future, Eric Hess, Tiyanna Calderon & the board, Emily Johnson, David E. Weekly, Olya Zarembo, Jorge Zavala, and Marco Palacios. It is a stunt to get this community going through the thick and thin, congratulations!
