The #ACAT2025 Kigali was electrifying last week. It was an honour to be invited as a speaker in two of the panel sessions, where I shared key messages on putting resources in the hands of young people to empower them to create, adopt, and scale #NextGenAgTech solutions.

#ACAT2025 is pushing real solutions for African farmers. To build a strong, technology-driven agricultural sector, Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Dr. @EdNgirente shared 3 priorities: 1️⃣ Fund & train young agri-innovators 2️⃣ De-risk farming (insurance, finance, resilient seeds) 3️⃣ Expand digital tools (AI, irrigation, pest detection) Read more in this excellent article by @EmNtirenganya of @NewTimesRwanda: bit.ly/4mTjYep @mcbagabe @RwandaAgri @aatfafrica @CanisiusKana #NextGenAgTech

This week, I had the chance to join fellow ACAT Africa delegates on a trip from Kigali Convention Centre to the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA) in Bugesera. The visit aimed to explore some of the latest innovations in agriculture — from food processing and crop production to conservation agriculture, animal husbandry, and mechanized farming. Basically, a buffet of farming brilliance. Before kicking off the tour, we had lunch — a necessary refuel before diving into the day’s discoveries. Let’s face it: no one wants to talk soil science on an empty stomach. RICA holds a special place in my heart. I spent four transformative years there from 2019 to 2023. Coming back felt like a full-circle moment. The campus, the environment, the energy — all brought back powerful memories of learning, growth, and purpose. I took some pictures at the Howard G. Buffett Campus Center — the place where my journey in agriculture truly began. It’s more than just a building; it’s where I learned, practiced, and dreamed. (Also, the lighting? Perfect for photos.) Throughout the day, we witnessed impressive technologies and real-time innovations shaping the future of agriculture. In a few minutes, I’m going to share what we’ve learned — and trust me, it’s worth your attention. Stay tuned. #JCN #ACAT2025

When young people lead in agriculture, they don’t just grow crops. They grow solutions. For too long, agriculture was seen as a last resort. For the old. For the uneducated. For those with no other choice. But that narrative is crumbling. And I’ve seen it with my own eyes. At #ACAT2025. In the bold ideas. In the tech-driven demos. In the voices of young change makers across Africa. We’re not waiting for permission. We’re rewriting the rules. Building youth-centered food systems. Tapping into the power of digital tools. Designing for resilience. For climate. For markets. For people. It’s time to stop asking if youth belong in agriculture. We already do. Now ask—how can we empower them more? I’m inspired. I’ve connected. I’ve learned. And I’ve grown. The future of agriculture is not only youthful. It’s innovative. It’s unstoppable. It’s now. #LearnGrowFarm #ACAT2025 #PacifiqueDeCultivator #NextGenAgTech

Evelyn Lusenaka, Director-Stewardship, @CroplifeAME said: "Precision application tools are key focus in crop protection industry. In Asia, 80% of precision application is done by drones. In Africa, absence of a framework impedes this advancement." - #NextGenAgTech for #ACAT2025

Shaping the future of African agriculture for today and for generations to come. Yesterday, Paques Sidonie Kouam-Gwet, @GGGIAfrica's Regional Investment Lead, attended the African Conference on Agriculture Technologies, which is taking place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 9-12 June 2025. The conference brings together delegates from across the African continent - policymakers, development partners, scientists, farmers, and innovators to discuss the commercialisation and scaling of climate-smart and modern agricultural technologies and innovations to the last mile. During a panel discussion themed "Partnering to advance ag-tech transfer in Africa", Ms. Sidonie shared insights from @gggi_hq’s Agricultural Adaptation Financing Facility Program, supported by the @gatesfoundation. She highlighted how the program mobilizes capital for climate adaptation in agriculture by financing projects that help farmers adapt to climate change. She emphasized key barriers in Africa’s ag-tech space, including limited access to risk-tolerant capital and challenges in affordability, awareness, and distribution—especially for smallholder farmers. Ms. Sidonie called on private investors to leverage public climate finance to scale up proven solutions and stressed the need for stronger collaboration with local distributors, mobile networks, and fintech to ensure effective last-mile delivery. As #ACAT2025 wraps up, one message echoes across Africa: "The future of agriculture is digital, dynamic, and youth-driven." Africa’s transformation will be led by those who believe in it and build it. If not you, then who? If not now, then when? 🎯 Key Takeaways for Youth in Agriculture: 1️⃣ Agriculture is no longer traditional; it’s technological. AgTech, AI, drones, and data are transforming how we grow, farm, and market. 2️⃣Food systems are career systems. We need innovators, coders, veterinarians, and agribusiness leaders, not just farmers. 3️⃣ Africa is rising, and so must we. From job seekers to job creators. Start where you are. Think bigger. 4️⃣ Use what you have, where you are. Your phone, your land, your voice, that’s your startup kit. 5️⃣ You are not just the future, you are the now. Change doesn’t wait. Neither should you. Agriculture is your platform. Rise with it. Own it. Lead it. The future belongs to us , Africa’s youth. #ACAT2025 #NextGenAgTech
