I almost gave an NSWC Crane armorer an aneurysm when he thought I was about to do just that to one of his tuned 1911s that I was returning to the van at a fleet forces match at Dam Neck.
It didn't look like much on the outside... buy wow, that was a beautifully tuned pistol.

Honesty I prefer not to drop the slide on an empty chamber with ANY pistol... Seems akin to slapping the cylinder shut on a revolver. Just personal preference.

You can put the slide forward to store unloaded. Just don't slam it like you're doing an emergency reload.
