It is high time the government enacts proper laws to regulate companies’ support desks.
With rapid AI adoption and aggressive cost-cutting, companies are outright removing the option to speak to a real human support agent — replacing them with AI bots that are, in most cases, completely useless. This is happening even as company revenues continue to soar, while consumers are left suffering and their lives are made miserable.
Whether it’s content creators on
@YouTube @Meta @X @Discord or any other platform — their channels are being demonetised or banned by automated bots with zero recourse to a human review. Many of these creators depend on their content for their livelihood. Denying them a fair appeal is nothing short of violating their basic human rights. Platforms that serve international audiences cannot be regulated only by national governments — they must also fall under international oversight and courts. Right now, creators are reduced to helplessly begging for human reviews.
On the other hand, B2C giants like
@Flipkart @Amazon @Zepto @Rapido and countless others — from small startups to big corporations — have killed consumer rights by forcing bot-only support in their apps with no path to a human agent.
Even many government departments have started implementing the same system — a nightmare scenario when emergencies arise and real human intervention is needed.
Access to human support must be declared a fundamental consumer right. No one should be forced to run in circles, getting looped endlessly by bots just to reach a living person.
The Government of India must immediately commission a comprehensive market research study on this growing crisis and introduce strong, enforceable laws to protect consumers, creators, and citizens alike.
We cannot let profit-driven automation destroy basic human dignity and rights in customer service.
