πŸ“£ Olathe Public Schools is pleased to share that the presidential administration has announced they will be releasing the nearly $7 billion in congressionally approved education funding for the current fiscal year that had been frozen by the administration, pending review. For Olathe Public Schools, that means we will receive just over $1 million federal funding, which we had previously budgeted for, to support students and staff. 🍎 While this $1 million is only a small portion of our overall Title funding and total federal funds as a district, we are thankful that these federal funds have been released and that we will be able to fund these programs as planned to support our staff and some of our most at-risk students. #OPSMakeTodayCount

🚲 This summer students and mentors from the Olathe Leadership Lowrider Bike Club ventured to Washington, D.C. to kick off the 2025 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. β€œThe festival allowed the bike club to represent the best of its craft on a national stage.” said Jean Cantero, Student and Family Support Liaison. πŸ₯½ Their tent was in the middle of the National Mall, where thousands of festival attendees were able to learn from our students about the work they do in the club. Their tent included a number of hands-on activities and bikes on display. Student leaders immediately took charge of the activities, while informing guests all about Olathe and the work they do in their club. 🌟 Throughout the festival, our students were invited to participate in five different panels to share their work in greater detail. During this week students and mentors worked on the American Flag Lowrider Bike presented it to staff from the Smithsonian Institution. Typical bikes in their club take anywhere from 6 months to more than a year to complete, however our students and mentors were able to complete this amazing art piece in only 6 days, spanning the duration of the Folklife Festival! #OPSMakeTodayCount

🌟 Be the Spark is a statewide initiative that empowers KAY Clubs to dream big and lead sustainable, student-driven projects focused on physical health, mental wellness and nutrition. πŸ’‘At Summit Trail Middle School, students developed a plan to bring light therapy into classrooms with limited natural light, supporting mental health by boosting mood and energy. They also will launch Move for Your Mood, a weekly schoolwide physical activity during intervention time, paired with daily wellness tips in morning announcements next school year. πŸͺŸ β€œWith a significant number of classrooms that do not have windows to the outside, a need to support student mood and health was identified,” said Principal Heath Sigg. Their research led to a plan that will benefit every Sabercat! πŸ”— Read more here: bit.ly/4n4T975 #OPSMakeTodayCount
