IEC 62443 builds security around zones and conduits—assets grouped, paths defined, and security levels tied to attacker capability. NIST SP 800-82 focuses on risk management and recommended controls—it guides asset ID and access control without mandating zones. IEC 62443 needs verified asset relationships; incomplete inventories break zone logic. NIST works with reasonable inventories and layered controls. Both need asset data—but IEC 62443 exposes documentation gaps faster since boundaries depend on structure. Congrats to Ph.D. student Wing Yi Pao and Automotive Engineering undergraduate student Long Li, who won the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering's National Student Design Competition under the category of Technical Prowess in Mechanical Engineering! #CSME #OTEngineering
Congratulations to Ph.D. student Wing Yi Pao and Automotive Engineering undergraduate student Long Li, who won the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME) National Student Design Competition under the prize category of “Technical Prowess in Mechanical Engineering” for their project “Wind-Driven Rain Simulation System.” For this project, the team developed a rain simulation system for use in wind tunnels that more realistically simulates natural rainfall than traditional pressurized spray nozzles, allowing for more accurate testing of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
