Update #3 2:30pm ET 10/9/2024 As part of our Hurricane Helene relief efforts, Operation Recovery delivered multiple @SpaceX Starlinks to communities in need across Asheville, North Carolina. Today, the last Starlink found its home at Station 0 in Broad River, a critical supply point near Black Mountain. There has been no cell service in the area for weeks, and this connection will be a lifeline for those working tirelessly to recover and rebuild. Friday Update! 1:00pm ET 10/4/24 Convoy #2 arrived at Cloudland Elementary School in Roan Mountain, TN yesterday. Ian and his team drove all the way from Texas, greeting Principal Scotty, the Volunteer Fire Department, and community with 5 Starlinks; 6 generators; supplemental equipment; pallets of animal feed, electrolytes, and livestock wound care supplies; and 6 tonnes of emergency care packages among other goods! The #starlink stations will enable search and rescue, recovery, and supply requests -- and people in the area can now let their loved ones know they're ok. Our neighbors in Eastern Tennessee are strong, resilient, and still smiling, despite Helene's devastation. The Doe River, normally about 20 ft wide at its banks here, surged to 400 feet in just a few hours. Roan Mountain's volunteer firefighters and other community members have been working hard to clear roads to get to those still trapped on the mountain. When we arrived, hot meals were being served at the fire station. Farmers are making sure their neighbors have dry feed. People are going door to door where they can, and figuring out creative ways to get to those they can't. Many towns in this area are still completely cut off or lost entirely. Everyone is doing what they can to get in there and help. This is what "We the People" looks like. #neighborshelpingneighbors 🇺🇸 Huge huge thanks to #SummitCompanies, who are life safety experts -- without you, this support wouldn't be possible! Update! 10:30pm ET 10/4/24 Today was BUSY for our Hurricane Helene teams! Your support is fueling literal convoys of not just supplies, but hope. Convoy #1: Jon's first stop late last night was South Carolina, where he dropped off communications supplies for some very motivated veterans. Even though their families were affected by the hurricane, they are continuing to volunteer their time to help others in even harder hit areas. Portable data connection is a force multiplier! Jon was back on the road bright and early -- this time rolling in to Covenant Community Church with water, food, baby formula, diapers, sleeping kits, cleaning supplies and...internet! 📡 #Asheville: 11 Rocket Dr is now a confirmed free #Starlink site! (We made sure to test it by sending a status update back to HQ!) This means anyone in the area can now request more supplies, coordinate search and rescue, and let their loved ones know they're ok. 📡 PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD by sharing this post to help this info reach more people in need!
