#ManitoulinOPP - Operation Safe Driver Week Recap A couple weeks ago, from July 13-19, 2025, the Manitoulin OPP partnered with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and other road safety agencies to focus on commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety. Officers conducted several traffic stops and inspections throughout the week in the Manitoulin Island and Espanola areas. These traffic stops resulted in several CMV-related charges and educational interactions related to load security, driving behaviour and documentation. CMV drivers were also directed to complete Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) as part of the traffic stops. CMV drivers carry a unique responsibility for safety on our roads due to the size and impact of their vehicle. The Manitoulin OPP remains committed to ensuring safety for all motorists. As a reminder, CMV drivers must maintain a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of zero. Thank you to all drivers who continue to prioritize safety. University Dr. The driver, 23-year-old Treyton Henson of Fargo, was arrested for Reckless Driving. This #BehindTheScene bodycam video highlights the extreme dangers of excessive speeding and the importance of #OperationSafeDriverWeek, which focuses on reducing high-risk driving behaviors through education and enforcement. How important is tire tread? Late last night, a member of the public called in a possible impaired driver on #Hwy416 in @North_Grenville - said the car couldn’t maintain its lane nor could it maintain its speed on the wet roads. Officers found it - thankfully, the driver was not impaired, but had a completely bald tire. The driver was charged for improper tire, and the tire was replaced roadside. Do not drive with worn tires; it can greatly affect your ability to stop in an emergency, especially on wet roads like last night. Replace when depth is less than 1.5mm, or when front tires are less than 3mm for vehicles weighing more than 4,500kg.
