🚨☔ It’s an Overflow Action Day. Reduce your use of water before, during and after rainstorms to reduce the amount of water in your municipal sewers:
💧Delay showers and baths
💧Flush less frequently
💧Wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like heavy rain is possibly on the way later this evening. We are issuing an overflow action alert. Consider conserving water where possible to protect our #water#environment@chicagoriver
🏗️🥳 Join us at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Oct. 26 to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP) aka Deep Tunnel, the vast project designed to protect our rivers and Lake Michigan from sewer overflows ⬇️

RAIN IS COMING! Please limit your
water usage to absolute necessities. We ask that you refrain from doing laundry, running your dishwasher, and taking that long shower, so that the @MWRD can manage all the storm water we are receiving. #PeaceLoveCleanWater✌🏾❤️💧#OverflowAction

STEELE Overflow Action Tip: On rainy days, 1 in. of rain across Cook County can yield approximately 16 Bil gal of H2O, so every drop of saved helps during storms. For tips on how to reduce your H2O use at home, visit mwrd.org/.../doc.../overflow… . #✌❤️💧#Overflowaction#MWRD
We're raising awareness and sharing tips for conserving water at home. @chicagoriver Overflow Action Days initiative asks residents to limit their water use during heavy rains to lessen the potential for combined sewer overflows (CSOs). #overflowactionfb.watch/5bZFul4etG/
The 47th Ward's western boundary is the Chicago River, and that's a big part of why I'm honored to take part in the #OverflowAction Awareness Month.
We can all do our part to conserve water at home and reduce litter that can end up in our sewer system.
It's #OverflowAction Month with @chicagoriver! How are we impacted?
"Working on the river I've seen the wildlife that calls it home. From baby snapping turtles to kingfishers, I want to prevent CSOs and ensure their home continues to thrive!"
-Krystyna, Conservation Facilitator
Have you seen a bioswale, rain garden, or wetland? Tag us in your photos of these and other nature-based solutions to stormwater management. #OverflowAction

Grey infrastructure (pipes & tunnels) will not eliminate combined sewer overflows (CSOs) alone. We also need nature-based solutions, like bioswales w/ native plants to absorb & filter rain. #OverflowAction@ChicagoParks
ALT Native flowers will bloom in these bioswales as we move into spring. This nature-based solution allows an otherwise impervious Chicago Park District parking lot to absorb rain. Unlike pipes and tunnels that serve one purpose, nature-based solutions provide multiple benefits such as habitat, scenery, reduced urban heat island, and climate resilience.
It's #OverflowAction Month with @chicagoriver! How are we impacted?
"I care about because they lead to gross things our volunteers have to pick up on the river and might give them a negative perception about the otherwise improving river."
-Maggie, Conservation Coordinator
