Meet Lucy Kaapus from Kakuma, Turkana County.
For 17 years, Lucy ran her salon using only her natural talent and hands-on experience. But like many small business owners, she faced serious challenges — no bookkeeping, no records, and growing debt.
That changed when she joined a cohort of Business Development Services mentees under the Danida and Grundfos Foundation funded Pathways to Prosperity project. Over six months of training and mentorship, Lucy gained critical skills in bookkeeping, daily record keeping, stock taking, debt management, and marketing — tools that transformed how she runs her business.
The impact?
Lucy saved enough to open a second salon in Kalobeyei. Today, she runs two thriving salons and employs 10 people — creating jobs and building her future.
