The PLANE Programme is delighted to join the Federal Government of Nigeria and other development partners in celebrating outstanding Nigerian teachers at the National Teachers’ Summit, holding in Abuja from 27–28 January 2026.
Speaking at the opening session of the summit yesterday, Mr Ian Attfield, Senior Education Advisor at the British High Commission, reaffirmed the UK’s strong commitment to supporting Nigerian teachers, highlighting their dedication in challenging contexts and the need for sustained investment in teacher development, equitable deployment and reliable education financing.
Also contributing, Dr Gboyega Ilusanya, National Team Lead of the PLANE Programme, spoke during a panel session on Transforming the Teaching Profession, highlighting PLANE’s impact across parts of the North West and North East, particularly in Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa States. Through partnerships with State Ministries of Education and UBEC, PLANE has reached 4,000 schools, 60,000 teachers and over 2.1 million learners.
Day 1 was attended by the First Lady of Nigeria, the Minister of Education, Minister of State for Education and other top government officials. It also featured inspiring speeches from a Jigawa-based, PLANE-trained teacher and a student/Beta Nigeria podcaster.
