OYO STATE AT 50
As Oyo State marks its golden jubilee 50 remarkable years since creation on February 3, 1976, we stand at a pivotal moment of reflection, gratitude, and renewed hope.
From the ancient glory of the Oyo Empire, cradle of Yoruba civilization, scholarship, and orderly governance, to our modern status as the “Pacesetter State”, Oyo has always embodied resilience, culture, and progress.
Over these five decades, we have witnessed transformative leadership, especially under our current Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, whose focus on infrastructure, education, security, and good governance has repositioned Oyo as a model.
From world-class projects already commissioned to ongoing development in roads, healthcare, agric business and youth empowerment, we see tangible proof that Oyo is not just celebrating history but actively building a brighter future.
As a proud son of this land, I am deeply moved by our collective journey. We have overcome challenges through unity and determination, and today, as offices close early and carnivals, concerts, and ceremonies fill our streets, let us recommit to consolidating this legacy.
To every Oyo indigene: Let us honor our past, navigate the present with purpose, and reimagine a future where our youth thrive, our culture flourishes, and prosperity reaches every corner, from Ibadan to Ogbomoso, to Oyo, to Oke Ogun, to Ibarapa, to the farthest villages in the state.
With visionary leadership and rich cultural heritage, Oyo State strides towards a brighter future, poised for greatness, driven by progress, innovation, and the resilience of its people, shaping a promising tomorrow.
Happy Anniversary, my beloved state, we will be here to celebrate 100 years of creation, witnessing the continued growth, prosperity, and greatness of Oyo.
