Strengthening Immunization: Chigari Foundation Sensitises Shagari LGA
On Saturday, 20 September 2025,
@chigari_ngo joined a high-level delegation for a focused sensitisation visit to the District Heads of Shagari and Dandanmahe in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The meeting addressed urgent issues around polio eradication, the strengthening of routine immunization services, and the operational challenges hindering full implementation in the LGA.
Of particular concern was the recent confirmation of three cases of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) within the same ward — a development that underscores the urgent need for intensified community mobilisation and strengthened coordination among stakeholders. In attendance were representatives from the LGA Team, the Director of Primary Health Care (DPHC), the Vice Chairman of the LGA, district leadership, and development partners including
@WHONigeria,
@UNICEF_Nigeria,
@SCIDaR_, and
#Mcking.
Traditional and religious leaders, together with other respected community figures, participated actively in the discussions. Their leadership and trust-building role remain vital to ensuring that every child is reached with lifesaving vaccines and that communities understand and support vaccination efforts.
This joint engagement demonstrates a renewed commitment by government structures, traditional institutions, development partners, and community leaders to work hand-in-hand to defeat polio and advance child health in Shagari LGA.
@chigari_ngo reaffirms its dedication to community-centred action and calls on all residents to support routine immunization and outreach activities that protect children and secure a healthier future for the LGA.
