A rare planetary alignment involving Mercury, Mars, Saturn and Neptune will be visible in India between April 16 and April 23. The best time to watch it will be between April 18 and April 20, just before sunrise. On April 20, Mercury, Mars and Saturn will appear so close together that they can fit under three fingers held at arm’s length.
People in India should look toward the eastern sky about 30 minutes before sunrise, ideally between 5:00 am and 5:50 am. Mercury, Mars and Saturn can be seen with the naked eye if the sky is clear, while Neptune will need binoculars or a small telescope.
The best view is expected from southern Indian cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi because the planets will appear slightly higher above the horizon there.
