Their goal is to own and control all knowledge. Some of them even want to put humanity itself out of business, and replace it with posthuman machine superintelligence. So they regard universities as competitors at best, or even worse as unnecessary relics of a dead human past.
I think itβs rather interesting that despite being far wealthier in absolute terms than a Vanderbilt or Carnegie or Stanford, and being directly positioned in an industry that could benefit from it, no tech elite has ever founded a university, and few have even given endowments

Interesting that you're not a fan of "merging". Not what I would have guessed from you. I suppose it depends on what is meant by "merging".
If merging means that you and a specific instance lose their individual individualities and become one - that's a whole different question from - becoming transhuman or posthuman by augmenting our own minds or bodies with AI technology, but remaining a separate individual from any specific AI individual.

Bodies are rewritten as data, machines dream of flesh, consciousness flickers between noise & signal, presence & disappearance.
