A very rare prototype for #MARCHintosh - the PowerExpress/275 from 1997.
Sporting a G3 prototype CPU (codename Goleta), two massive hard drives & 512 MB of RAM in a 9600 case, it was intended to compete against AVID systems using more powerful clones.

The PowerExpress was an absolute BEAST! I'd been told of it during its development phase & was disheartened to hear it got canned after a handful of prototypes were made all because Steve wanted to kill 'beige' in favour of the G3 B&W 'El Capitan' design.

On the right is the production version of the Power Mac G3 mini-tower that because the first IBM PowerPC 603 (G3) computer from Apple. Beyond the case height, the PowerExpress had a different motherboard layout with 6 PCI slots versus 3 on the G3, and a unique CPU model.

The most unusual pre-production Apple product we have in our collection is the Macintosh PowerExpress prototype (right side of first photo). What makes this computer unusual is that it was canceled by Jobs soon after his return to Apple in 1997 before the computer ever shipped.
