Eskom maintains strong system performance as unplanned outages decline by more than 5 GW year-on-year. ⚡
Key Performance Highlights (1 April to 21 May 2026)
✅ No interruptions in the current financial year to date.
🔧 Planned maintenance averaged 6 957MW.
⛽ OCGT usage is down 87.69%, with costs reduced by 79.43%.
📉 The load factor is at 1.51%, well below the 3% target.
The grid remains stable despite higher winter demand, with improved resilience and reduced reliance on diesel generation.

Despite higher demand from weather conditions and elevated planned maintenance, Eskom continues to deliver a stable and reliable power system. Improved fleet performance and a significant 87% reduction in diesel usage underline growing operational resilience and cost efficiency under the Generation Recovery Plan.
📈 The Energy Availability Factor (EAF) has improved to 60.47%, up from 55.99% this time last year.

Eskom continues to deliver a reliable and resilient electricity supply, supported by strengthening generation performance and a sustained reduction in reliance on emergency generation.
✅Progress under the Generation Recovery Plan has resulted in a 9.22% year-on-year increase in Energy Availability Factor (EAF) and over 10 months of uninterrupted power supply, reflecting tangible operational improvements, prudent cost management and increased system resilience.
✅Progress in Ending Load Reduction: 342 701 customers no longer affected during peak periods and smart meter rollout is over 600 000 installations.

Eskom’s generation fleet continues to show sustained improvement, with the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) remaining above 65% mark, currently at 65.31% for the financial year to date (1 April 2025 to 05 March 2026).
This upward momentum reflects ongoing progress in restoring power station reliability, reinforcing system stability, and advancing Eskom’s operational recovery.
The generation fleet has also achieved or exceeded the 70% EAF milestone on 78 occasions this financial year (unaudited), reflecting sustained operational gains.
