Our Grant Books are getting a glow up this Preservation Week! During this week we will commence a project to rehouse our Grant Books into archival enclosures, which will then be placed into archival boxes. #PreservationWeek

For #PreservationWeek, we now look at preserving historical paper documents. This is House Bill 126 from 1890, which created Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (Oklahoma State University) and Territorial Normal School (University of Central Oklahoma).

Our most frequent repairs are spine replacement and cover reattachment for late 1800s to early 1900s books, which have worn down through use and the degradation of original binding materials. We repair with archivally sound materials, to prolong the book's life. #PreservationWeek

#PreservationWeek Scanning can be considered a preservation activity because it reduces the handling of original documents, thus avoiding the “wear and tear” from constant use.

Our #preservation program includes collection repair - like this 1883 Essex Agricultural Society broadside! Using wheat paste and Japanese paper, we brought it back to one piece. It was then encapsulated in Mylar for additional protection and easier handling. #PreservationWeek
