萎縮型加齢黄斑変性（GA）に対して、スタンフォード大学が開発中の**無線網膜インプラント「PRIMAシステム」**が臨床試験で注目成果。
中心窩が機能しない患者32例のうち84％が、手術後12か月で「文字や数字を識別できる」レベルの機能的中心視覚を獲得。
最大5行の文字を読めた例も報告。従来“進行抑制”しかできなかったGAに対し、視覚機能を部分的に回復させた初の報告。
まだ臨床試験段階だが、視覚再生のパラダイムシフトとして世界的に注目。
