Did you know Mary Cassatt was not just a painter but also a printmaker? I gravitated toward copying her Japanese-inspired prints in high school art class because Iβve always enjoyed line more than color.
Today is the 100th anniversary of artist Mary Cassattβs death. She died on June 14, 1926, at the age of 82 in her adopted country of France. She was born in Pennsylvania to a well-to-do family in 1844. Although she never had children, Cassatt is beloved for her tender paintings of mothers and children. I first fell in love with her work when I saw a copy of βLittle Girl in a Blue Armchairβ as a child. One of my projects in high school art class was copying her Japanese prints!
