Great news, but ₹1.5C for critical h/w R&D proto when a lot of stuff needs to be shipped overseas, lacking domestic fab & other machining? Nearly ₹6,000 cr (~50% China) spent on importing locos, RS & components with ~₹50k cr avg/year budget for modernisation. Precision, high‑load wheelsets & bogies, Traction motors & EMUs and signalling, comm electronics among key dependencies; followed by couplers, high‑strength fasteners, high‑voltage transformers, etc. There’s meaningful localisation for VB components & new forged-wheel plants in Raebareli & Tita cutting China/Ukraine reliance. But with ongoing rail mod NG train tech evolution, India is playing catch-up & spend 10s of Bns in CapEx, with sizable importsand over ~$300 B in overall rail investment — let's do better than ₹1.5 cr to fix it.
