ALBANY --- A New York State program – Respond, Invest, Sustain, Empower – is aiming to help young people and families, in the "City of Hills" succeed through youth development programming, mentoring, job training, mental health supports, and opportunities for success. The #YonkersPAL will receive $666,667, retaining $291,817 and distributing $374,850 to #Brother2Brother and The #HogueFoundation. The Yonkers Family YMCA gets $666,666, retaining $213,695 and distributing $452,971 to #914United, #WeArtOne, and #ExquisiteAcademyOfArts. Westhab Inc. is being sent $666,667, retaining $164,002 and distributing $502,665 to #OnePaso, #ProjectInspire, and #YonkersArts.

This week reminded me of the quiet power of showing up. On Monday, I had the honor of speaking at the Elks event, celebrating 5th–8th grade students who placed in the “What Does Patriotism Mean to Me” essay competition. Then on Tuesday, I attended the graduation dinner and ceremony for the young men of Project Inspire—witnessing the pride, hope, and transformation in each of their eyes. Two very different rooms. One message: we rise by lifting others. I’m not trying to save the world. I’m just doing my best—one day at a time—to spread love, offer connection, and remind us all that healing is possible. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” — John 15:12 “If you light a lamp for someone else, it will also brighten your path.” — Buddha Let’s keep lighting lamps. Last night was something special. I had the honor and privilege of witnessing a group of young men complete Project Inspire—a hospital-led program developed by UNMC to curb gun violence and reduce recidivism through empowerment, skill-building, and mentorship. These young men, placed on probation, showed up week after week for 16 weeks—building resumes, learning interview skills, gaining life-saving certifications, and discovering how to turn their pain into purpose. I had the opportunity to speak with them about the power of integrity—in our choices, in owning our mistakes, and in building a future that reflects who we truly want to be. The joy and pride on their faces as they completed this journey was unforgettable. These young men now walk forward with a few more tools in their toolbox and a spark of belief in what’s possible.
