The brain #microplastic paper is a joke:
Fat makes false positive PE - see missing high m/z ions in PyGCMS.
The brain has ~60% fat, and liver has ~5%, so that is why ~10x more "plastics" there.

2/2 But Table S9 says only 2-4% of that pellet is polythene (PE). That would be more like 0.05% of cortex.
I may be misreading, and certainly don't understand limitations of pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry #PyGCMS.

Had the privilege of being hosted by the @ChelseaRochman lab this month in Toronto. With tremendous help from @HermabessiereL we used pyGCMS and Raman spec to investigate #microplastics in marine mammals. Stay tuned for what we learned!
