Wow – 400 places gone in just 2 hours!😇 I'm incredibly proud (and a little overwhelmed!) to share that my upcoming webinar with the Academy for Social Justice on Routine Enquiry about Childhood Adversity is now fully booked. For those who weren’t able to grab a spot — I’m really sorry. But the good news is: we’ll be running another session in the next few weeks! Keep an eye out for updates — details coming very soon. The webinar will explore why Routine Enquiry is a key pillar of trauma-informed care — and how we move beyond treating symptoms to addressing the root causes of adversity. I’ll be sharing insights from my work with the REACh™ model, as well as practical strategies to embed this approach across sectors. We'll cover: ✅ What routine enquiry is (and isn’t) ✅ Why it’s so often overlooked ✅ How to implement it safely and effectively ✅ Real-world examples and evidence from the field ✅ Your questions – answered live If you work in health, social care, education, justice or community services, this is a conversation worth joining. Thanks again to everyone who signed up — looking forward to seeing you there!🙂 #TraumaInformedCare #RoutineEnquiry #REAChModel #ChildhoodAdversity #SocialJustice #ACEAware #Webinar #WarrenLarkin #EarlyIntervention #MentalHealth #TraumaPrevention #PublicHealth @Academyjustice eventbrite.co.uk/e/routine-e…

Just home from presenting at the Royal College of General Practitioners (@rcgp)s 'managing addictions in primary care conference at the The Lowry Hotel in Manchester. My title was 'Trauma and Resilience Informed Practice - what it is, what it isn't and how it can change the world.' Thank you to the audience who were generous and attentive and who asked very thoughtful questions a the end. Thanks also to the people who came to talk to me after my session - its so appreciated to connect and to know what I presented resonated and provided a valuable perspective I hoped my messages would land but I'm delighted to discover there is a huge appetite for trauma and resilience informed approaches to helping people with the addiction. I'm especially pleased that my continued advocacy for routine and targeted enquiry about trauma and childhood adversity was so well received. My take home message was that we can't keep treating the symptoms and not addressing the cause - the origin of the pain. We have to ask in a sensitive way and create the conditions for someone to tell us their deepest darkest secrets and then respond in compassionate and validating way. Of course a bit of training helps but no one expects the person they disclose to to fix their problems instantly -  but by listening, accepting and validating we can facilitate a therapeutic opportunity - a catalyst for change. I finished with the words of Desmond Tutu as I often do, 'we have to stop just pulling people out of the river - we have to go upstream and find out why they are falling in…' Big thanks to Dr Stephen Willets and @RCGPlearning for inviting me and championing my contribution. Huge thank Jess and Kelly @addictionprofs who were brilliant conference organisers and were so professional #ManagingAddictions #PrimaryCare #ACEEnquiry #RCGPConference #TraumaInformedCare #TraumaInformedEducation #REAChModel #TraumaInformed #ResilienceInformed

Reflecting on presentation and time at the Royal College of GPs 'Managing Addictions in Primary Care' conference. In this video, I share my thoughts on the event, the valuable insights gained, and the important conversations that followed. A big thank you to everyone who attended my session and connected with me afterwards. It’s clear that the benefits of trauma and resilience-informed approaches are becoming increasingly recognised in the context of working with people experiencing addiction. I was particularly pleased that the case I presented for implementing routine and targeted enquiry about adverse childhood experiences in the primary care context resonated. #ManagingAddictions #PrimaryCare #ACEEnquiry #RCGPConference #TraumaInformedCare #TraumaInformedEducation #REAChModel #TraumaInformed #ResilienceInformed #RCGP @rcgp @addictionprofs
