Failed to grab a selfie,
@jnunemaker counting on you bro to hook me up. I think you got one of those long-arm non-boomer ones.
Just wanted to shout out John as a huge asset to the Rails community. I used Ruby gems from John like HTTParty and read John’s RailsTips WAAAY back in the day, late 2000s, big fan back then and still today 15 years later!
John is a huge asset to the Ruby community, incredibly approachable and generous with his time, and creates fun and accessible open source libraries and writing. We met at RailsConf and
#RailsWorld this year and had great chats. John has stories from big company exits, down to the smaller indie and small team businesses he's founded or helped build, and tells the stories with enthusiasm, exuberance.
John's businesses are underappreciated and underpromoted, that size between indie dev and medium-size, cash-flow positive, sustainable, and joyful. These are real businesses, solving customer problems, allowing their operators to sustain and grow a nice lifestyle. The ones I know of are SpeakerDeck, Flipper, Box Out Sports, and just recently announced:
Fireside.fm podcasting.

Thanks for all your time at
#RailsWorld John. Good luck on the
Fireside.fm launch, and looking forward to our future chats!
