From classrooms to coding, and from chalkboards to digital opportunities, another generation of teachers is being equipped with the skills and confidence needed to prepare learners for a rapidly evolving digital world. Today, the Frontier Counties Development Council (@FCDCKenya ), in partnership with the @RaspberryPi_org , the @EduMinKen and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), officially launched the Year 3 County-Level Teacher Training for the Advancing Computing Skills Project in @Garissa County. The training marks another important milestone in the project's journey to strengthen computing education and digital literacy across Kenya's frontier counties. This year, a new Cohort 2 comprising 13 teachers drawn from primary and junior schools across Garissa County has joined the programme, accompanied by two experienced teachers from the previous cohort who will support peer learning, mentorship, and sustainability efforts within participating schools. The training was officially opened by TSC Regional Director, Mr. Stephen Ajanga, who commended the strong partnership between FCDC, RPF, MoE, and TSC in expanding access to quality digital learning opportunities. He emphasized the critical role of technology in enhancing teaching and learning outcomes and challenged teachers to become champions of digital transformation within their schools and communities. Facilitated by Mr. Ibrahim Farah (CQASO) and Mr. Abdullahi Mohamed (County ICT Coordinator) using the approved Year 3 training curriculum, participants engaged in hands-on learning sessions covering computing education, digital literacy, and effective integration of technology into classroom practice. The training also incorporated Online Child Safety resources and awareness materials, reinforcing the importance of creating safe, responsible, and inclusive digital learning environments for all learners. A major highlight of the Year 3 programme is the introduction of @Ontumeducation Kits—innovative offline digital learning solutions designed specifically for schools operating in areas with limited internet connectivity and unreliable power supply. The kits will enable schools to access quality digital learning content without an internet connection, helping bridge the digital divide and ensuring that learners in remote and underserved communities are not left behind. Since its inception, the Advancing Computing Skills Project has continued to build teacher capacity, expand access to computing education, and strengthen digital learning ecosystems across participating counties. The Year 3 training represents another significant step towards institutionalizing computing education and ensuring long-term sustainability through local ownership and teacher leadership. As the training progresses, FCDC and its partners remain committed to empowering teachers with the knowledge, skills, and tools required to nurture the next generation of innovators, critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and digital leaders. #AdvancingComputingSkills#DigitalLearning #ICTInEducation#TeacherTraining #RaspberryPiFoundation#FCDC#TSC #MinistryOfEducation#GarissaCounty #ComputingEducation#OnlineSafety #DigitalSkillsForAll #TransformingEducation

Three years ago, the vision was simple but powerful: ensure that learners in Kenya’s frontier counties are not left behind in the digital revolution. Today, that vision continues to take shape. As we conclude a transformative three-day Community Trainers Workshop at @weston_hotel , Nairobi, @FCDCKenya joined Kenya Connect and other partners implementing the @RaspberryPi_org Computing Curriculum in Machakos County in reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening computing education across the ASAL region. The workshop brought together County Raspberry Pi Foundation Coordinators and Ministry of Education Quality Assurance & Standards Officers from all ten FCDC member counties, alongside partners and education stakeholders, in a collaborative effort to deepen digital learning, strengthen ICT integration, and improve the quality of computing education in schools. This gathering marks a significant milestone in the third year of the Advancing Computing Skills Project, building on two years of meaningful progress in transforming classroom learning experiences through technology. This year’s focus has centred on sustainability, improving training quality, and strengthening long-term support systems for both teachers and learners. The sessions were practical, immersive, and deeply engaging — allowing participants to experience learning from the learner’s perspective while exploring learner-centred pedagogy, curriculum design, lesson progression, culturally responsive teaching approaches, and effective facilitation methods that ensure consistency and relevance across counties. A major highlight of the workshop has been strengthening the capacity of county trainers themselves — sharpening facilitation skills, refining delivery approaches, improving training materials, and building confidence through peer practice, reflection, and feedback. The emphasis throughout has been on clarity, engagement, pacing, and impactful communication within teacher training environments. As the workshop comes to a close, we are equally excited for the launch of the first Offline Ontum Kulbox Technology and the Localised Rehabilitation of Digital Learning Tablets initiative. Through the introduction of the @Ontumeducation Offline Digital Model and Ontum Box Kits, schools facing connectivity and infrastructure challenges will now have greater access to uninterrupted, inclusive, and resilient digital learning opportunities. This moment is more than a workshop conclusion; it is a reflection of what strong partnerships can achieve in advancing equitable education for every learner, regardless of geography. Together with @RaspberryPi_org , @UNICEFKenya , Kenya Connect, @Ontumeducation , County Governments, and the @EduMinKenya , @FCDCKenya remains committed to scaling impactful, sustainable, and future-ready computing education across Kenya’s frontier counties. #DigitalLearning #ComputingEducation #ASAL #ICT4Education #DigitalSkills #RaspberryPiFoundation #UNICEFKenya #KenyaConnect #OntumEducation #FCDC #EdTech #FutureOfLearning

This week is shaping up to be particularly busy and strategically significant as we deepen the implementation of Year Three of the Raspberry Pi Foundation Digital Learning Programme, marked by strengthened collaboration, renewed momentum, and a clear focus on scalable impact with our EdTech partners. We were pleased, alongside Mr. Ammar Mahmoud, Product Lead at Ontum Education, who travelled to Kenya to support the training of community trainers, to host a high-level online session bringing together key partners from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, UNICEF, and Futures Infinite Education, alongside Ontum Education. The session provided an opportunity to deepen shared understanding of Ontum Education’s scalable, offline-first learning ecosystem, including its KulBox innovation—a plug-and-play digital learning solution designed to deliver curated educational content in low- and no-connectivity environments. Participants also engaged in a live demonstration led by Mr. Ammar Mahmoud and his technical team, showcasing the KulBox’s offline content delivery capabilities and its integration potential with existing digital learning frameworks. The demonstration was particularly well received, offering a compelling proof of concept for how offline-enabled learning solutions can bridge access gaps in underserved and hard-to-reach contexts. It further reinforced the potential for Ministry of Education (national and county levels) uptake and scale, especially within broader digital learning and curriculum delivery reforms. As we move forward into the next phase of implementation, this engagement stands as a strong indicator of what is possible when innovation, partnership, and practical deployment converge to accelerate equitable access to digital learning. #DigitalLearning #EdTech #RaspberryPiFoundation #UNICEF #OntumEducation #KulBox #FCDC
