Read Alex recognised as an impactful programme by the District Department of Education The Johannesburg East District Department of Education hosted its annual partnership meeting for all its partners this morning. This was to thank partners for the work done over the years and to encourage continuation of the partnership. Different companies that contribute to the district education agenda who were present include: MTN, FNB, Hollard, Old Mutual, AVBOB, Tiger Brands and the Trevor Noah Foundation. #ReadAlex was also in attendance and its educational programmes, particularly the Spelling Bee competition were acknowledged as a meaningful and impactful initiative within the District. In recognition of this contribution, Read Alex was presented with a certificate of appreciation. On 29 Nov 2025, the curtain came down on our 2025 Juniors' season. Again it was a season of growth, hard work, celebrations and breaking new grounds. We reflected on our season and some of our athletics achievements included - Some of our children going on to represent Central Gauteng in the SA Cross-Country Championships - The club hosting the final leg of the Zet Sinqe Series, that saw hundreds of juniors from across Gauteng travelling to Alex and competing in the 1 mile series. On our Education wing, some of the Read Alex 2025 achievements included: - Hosting a Mandela Day Readathon for over 400 children - Hosting a Spelling Bee competition for 5 Alexandra Primary Schools grades. - Hosting a number of professionals that spent time with our Juniors and sharing with them experiences about their line of work. For Immediate Release: Spelling bee competition for Alexandra primary schools. After a very successful inaugural spelling bee competition in 2024. Read Alex brings you an even bigger competition in 2025. The 2025 competition will see 7 Alexandra Primary Schools participating in the 5 grades (grade 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7) competion over 2 weekends. The first session for Grades 3, 4 and 5 will be held on Saturday 23 August 2025. A second group of grade 3s will join the grades 6 and 7 for the second session on 30 August 2025. "We received overwhelming support for our grade 4 and 6 competition in 2024. We had no option but to grow the competion and get more children in the community reading." said Samukelisiwe Nhlabathi, Head of Read Alex. Busamed Modderfontein Hospital Supports the event and will be catering for all participants. Alexandra Museum will again host both events, that will start at 08H30 and ends at 13H00.
