In April, our Readconnect impact report revealed some amazing results about our work in HMP Swaleside. The project is designed to help participants use storytelling to bond with their children and young family members while they are in prison. ⬇️

Last week we delivered our seventh Readconnect workshop at HMP Swaleside. Author @AndyWPhilosophy delivered a workshop to the men based on having philosophical telephone conversations and letter writing with their children. The workshop was fantastic, thank you Andy!

We held a Readconnect workshop based on music, family and fatherhood at HMP Swaleside. All of the men who took part really enjoyed it and rated the workshop excellent! Here’s a photo of @ciaranthapar and Demetri, who is a key part of his book, after the workshop.

Our Readconnect project has received funding for rollout in @HMPDownview! Last week we held our second workshop there with @KestrelTheatre focusing on comedy and storytelling. The women who participated said the workshops would inspire bedtime calls with their children. 😍

With feedback like this, it’s no surprise that our Readconnect project was rated as good or excellent by every single participant at HMP Swaleside.

Readconnect launched in 2022 to support the men of HMP Swaleside connect with their children and family members through storytelling and literacy. In its first year, more than 9 in 10 participants rated the workshop they attended as excellent. Read more: literacytrust.org.uk/program…

Yesterday we delivered our first Readconnect workshop with the women at @HMPDownview with children's poet @WakelingKate! Kate's workshop was based on her poetry from her book 'Moon Juice' and she described the workshop as "the most rewarding project she's ever taken part in!"

This week our ReadConnect project delivered its third workshop, and this time it was with award-winning poet @YomiSode Yomi delivered a family ties poetry workshop with 10 men, giving them lots of tips and exercises to support their writing to their children and wider family!
