Here’s what a typical supermarket industrial bread looks like these days 😬:
Ingredients: Wheat flour (enriched with iron, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, folic acid), water, high fructose corn syrup, soybean oil, yeast, salt, calcium propionate (preservative), mono- and diglycerides, sodium stearoyl lactylate, DATEM (emulsifier), azodicarbonamide (dough conditioner), soy flour, ascorbic acid, artificial flavors... and more.
I finally decided to stop buying bread from the supermarket because I believe the stuff they put in it has no business being in bread. So I started making my own. Interestingly, baking a real sourdough bread isn’t as trivial as I thought. It takes quite a bit of practice, patience, and research to get it right. BUT ONCE YOU DO… it’s absolutely amazing. I think my baking experience is getting pretty decent now. Who else here bakes their own bread? Drop your tips or stories below!👇
