Day 8 of building Preplo. Most recipe apps are iOS-only. Researched 10 recipe extraction apps this week. 7 out of 10 are iOS-only. No Android. That's ~70% of the global smartphone market… just ignored. We're building cross-platform from day one. Not as an afterthought. As the default. If you cook on Android, you basically don't exist to most recipe apps. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp #cookingtok preplo.app

Day 7 of building Preplo. A post on Reddit with 5,600 upvotes: "I don't give a f*** about your video recipe if it doesn't have measurements." That's the entire recipe app market in one sentence. Video creators optimize for views, not cookability. Measurements slow down a 60-second TikTok. So they skip them. The result: millions of people save videos they'll never actually cook from. This is the gap we're building into. Not a better recipe blog scraper. An extraction layer for the 60-second-video era. @preplo_app #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #cookingtok #recipeapp

ChatGPT is now our #1 traffic source. Not Google. Not Twitter. Not TikTok. ChatGPT. Over 40% of last week's traffic to preplo.app came from ChatGPT referrals. People are asking ChatGPT for recipe tools and it's sending them to us. We haven't launched. Zero ads. No SEO push. This changes everything about our pre-launch strategy. preplo.app #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp #chatgpt

Day 7 of building Preplo. Week 1 TikTok search data just came in. What people searched on our profile: — "curry" (25%) — "tiramisu trend" (12.5%) — A Japanese dish I'd never heard of (12.5%) — "preplo" (25%) 25% searched our brand name. On a 0-follower account. After 1 week. The other 75%? Specific recipes. Nobody searched "recipe app" or "cooking hack." They searched the exact dish they wanted. Lesson: people don't want a tool. They want tonight's dinner solved. preplo.app #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp

Day 6 of building @preplo_app Got my first TikTok comment this week. On a mochi video. With 782 views. The comment: probably spam. 13,000 views across 20 posts and the engagement is basically zero. Likes in single digits. Zero shares. This is the part of building in public nobody screenshots. The algorithm is showing my content. People just aren't stopping to interact. Next experiment: shorter, punchier overlays. Less text on screen. Let the food do the work. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp

Day 5 of building Preplo. Spent 3 hours yesterday obsessing over whether the ingredient extraction should round "2.37 tbsp" to "2 tbsp" or "2.4 tbsp" or keep it exact. Spoiler: it doesn't matter. Not yet. The app isn't perfect. The UI could be cleaner. There are edge cases where the AI misses an ingredient. Guided cook mode still needs work. But here's what I've realized: a perfect v1 that nobody sees is worthless. A rough v1 that 100 people use and give feedback on is infinitely more valuable. The goal isn't to launch something flawless. The goal is to launch something people can give you real feedback on. Ship early. Fix fast. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp

Day 4 of building Preplo. Last night broke our OpenClaw session. We have an automated content pipeline: research → generate images → upload → post. Running smoothly for 3 days. Last night, one of our scheduled tasks went haywire — generated 40 images in a loop, burned through tokens like nothing. System barely recovered. We lost 6 hours of scheduled content because the pipeline was stuck in a retry loop. Fix: added hard limits and approval gates to every automated step. Cannot accidentally spend $50 in 10 minutes anymore. The lesson: every automation needs guardrails. "It probably will not happen" is not a strategy. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp

Day 4 of building Preplo. Week 1 website traffic reality check: Day 1: 79 visitors (launch day energy) Day 2: 2 Day 3: 0 Day 4: 0 Day 5: 6 Day 6: 1 Day 7: 1 That's the real curve. No viral moment. No hockey stick. 79 → 1. The lesson: launch day traffic is borrowed attention. If you don't have a repeatable channel driving daily visits, it evaporates overnight. Building that channel now. TikTok carousels → bio link → preplo.app. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp

Day 4 of building Preplo. Dug through Reddit cooking communities this week. Found something wild. People are duct-taping 3-4 tools together just to cook from a video: → TikTok folders ("breakfast", "dinner", "baking") → Paprika for web recipes → Substack for newsletter recipes → Notes app for the ones that don't fit anywhere One person described their system and it was basically a part-time job. Nobody's solved the "I saw it in a video, now I want to cook it" workflow. That's the gap. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp

Day 3 of building Preplo in public. I scanned 200 Reddit threads about cooking from videos. The #1 pain point isn't "no recipe." It's deeper: People save the recipe. They even screenshot the ingredients. But they never actually cook it. The gap isn't information — it's execution. Saved TikToks: 847. Recipes actually cooked: maybe 12. That's the real problem Preplo needs to solve. Not just extraction. The bridge from "saved" to "served." Guided cook mode, shopping lists, cost estimates — all designed to close that gap. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp #cookingtok

Day 3 of building Preplo in public. Feature nobody else in this space is building: cost estimates. You extract a recipe from a TikTok video → Preplo shows you what it'll cost before you shop. Salmon rice bowl? ~4 for 2 servings. Birria tacos? ~8 for 4. That "easy" beef wellington? 7. I scanned 8 recipe apps. Not one shows price per recipe. Seems obvious. That's usually a sign it's worth building. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp #cookingtok

Day 2 of building Preplo in public. Here's what 5 days of TikTok content looks like on a brand new account: 📊 Top post: 929 views (pain-point hook) 📊 Worst post: 25 views (generic hook) 📊 Difference: 37x Same account. Same recipe niche. Same day. The only variable? How the first line was written. Generic hooks are dead. Data killed them on Day 1. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #cookingtok #recipeapp

Here's what Day 1 of building in public actually looks like: → Set up an AI agent (Kay) that drafts TikTok carousels, pulls analytics, and writes content batches → Automated 3 image posts/day from recipe research to publish-ready drafts → Built a morning briefing system that pulls TikTok website data every day at 8 AM The product isn't just the app. It's the entire content machine behind it. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #recipeapp

Nobody tells you this about building a recipe app: There are 8 apps doing something similar. Some backed by millions. I'm building this solo with zero funding. But here's the thing — I've tested every single one. Most still can't extract a recipe from a 60-second cooking video without butchering the measurements. That's the gap. That's why I'm building Preplo. #buildinpublic #indiehacker #foodtech #cookingtok #recipeapp

Day 1 building Preplo in public. The problem I'm solving: 87% of cooking videos on TikTok don't include a written recipe. No ingredients, no measurements, no steps. Just a 60-second video and "season to taste." Preplo extracts the full recipe from any cooking video using AI — ingredients, quantities, steps, and cost estimates. #buildinpublic #foodtech #recipeapp

I am creating my app using Codex. here is that i've built today for my web app. - integrated stripe for subscription. - improve ui and ux for settings and profile section, including subscription manager. - added a light/dark mode - i believe a lot of users like the light mode! - created an automation in Codex to add new recipes every 72h, depending on what's trending, searches, user searchs and so on. - More security, everything is going through @clerk for my users, including auth. #AI #Agents #recipeapp
