The self-proclaimed regime in Eritrea is at it again, but this time, it’s in a video discussing the plight of our brothers and sisters who are refugees in Libya. The harsh reality is that this government has driven many to flee their homeland due to a complete failure to provide essential education, adequate well-being, and economic opportunities. Instead of hope for a brighter future, the dictator delivers a lifetime of military service and hard labor. Faced with no prospects, countless Eritreans have made the heartbreaking decision to leave everything behind.
We can't forget the tragedy of October 2013, when we lost over 350 of our loved ones in a single day. Disturbingly, the government responded by mocking their deaths on national TV, asking who told them to gather—a statement that is nothing short of cruel and disrespectful.
Today, we face a dire situation as many Eritreans suffer in Libya. We urgently call upon human rights organizations, world leaders, the UN, and humanitarian groups to recognize this crisis and take action. We implore them to find solutions to ensure the safety of those in distress in Libya, whether through relocation to safer countries or other means. This cycle of suffering must come to an end.
Together, let’s raise our voices for change!
